Car Shopping: Time For Plan B

In mid-May, I placed an order for a 2023 Chevrolet Camaro.  I landed on the Camaro after looking at some other alternatives, notably a Pontiac Solstice and Subaru BRZ.  I was very excited to place that order, as Chevrolet is ending Camaro production for good at the end of the year.

In the article above, I shared that this order might be a challenge to get built.  As it turned out, I waited a bit too long to place my order.  GM scheduled all of the remaining production for 2023 and my car will not get built.  That news was a bummer, but after a short period of mourning I decided to go to my Plan B.

Searching For An Alternative

I originally selected the funky color, Rapid Blue, shown above for my order.  It’s not a normal color for dealers to stock, so I decided to expand my search for my Plan B color–white.

Chevrolet.com has a really good shopping tool for searching dealer inventory.  In short order, I found a white Camaro that was close in content to the one I ordered.  It was at a dealer other than the one who ordered my original car.  That car also had a couple of options I did not order on mine, but those extras did not add much to the cost.  It did have black wheels, which I do not like. That’s easily corrected with different wheels or paint, so I went ahead and bought the white Camaro last Friday.

Blank Canvas

I am a big fan of cars with expressive colors, and Rapid Blue was perfect for me.  Since that color is off the table, white gives me a blank canvas to work my personalization magic!  I’ve got interesting graphics ideas to go with a different wheel color to give my plain white Camaro some pizzazz.

Look for those mods in the next few weeks.  I have a lead on two different sets of wheels on Facebook Marketplace.  With any luck, one of those will be purchased by the end of this upcoming weekend.

Final Thoughts And Questions

Even though I was disappointed that my custom ordered car will not get built, I had a Plan B ready to activate. Finding and buying the white Camaro in such short order was just what I needed to turn a negative into a positive. You have to be open to alternatives when buying a car, and my experience is an example of that.

Modifications to the white Camaro will take place in the next few weeks.  Stay tuned for more details at that time.  Let me know your thoughts or if you have any questions about my plans.
