Facebook Marketplace Wheel Shopping

When I bought my Ford Ranger, it was equipped with Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT tires.  These are labeled as a mud and snow tire, but are really a mild all-terrain. They look good, but don’t offer the ride I wanted.  After some research I decided to buy a set of Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 all season tires.  That left me with a set of nearly new Goodyears to deal with.

Storing those tires can be a challenge, as they take up space and are hard to move around. The best solution was to sell them, but that can be a challenge as well.  Since I like a challenge, I turned to my favorite place to buy and sell parts: Facebook Marketplace.

Selling or Buying?

I tried to sell my Goodyears, but the buyers were either difficult or elusive.  I was only asking $300 for a set of nearly-new tires, so this seemed like more pain than gain.

Instead, I opted to buy a set of new wheels to mount the Goodyears, leaving me with an extra set of wheels/tires for winter. Or, for when I want a different look.

After considering new steel wheels (expensive), I turned my attention to a set of used Bronco Wheels.  Ranger and Bronco share the same platform, so their wheel specs are the same.  Bronco owners also seem to immediately switch to bigger wheels and tires after purchase, so the availability of like-new wheels on Facebook Marketplace was great.

Buying!

It only took two days for me to find the best deal within driving distance.  A guy about 20 miles away was selling brand new wheels from a Bronco Big Bend.  He bought them as a wheel/tire combo from a Bronco owner because he wanted the tires for his Jeep.  That left him with five (5) new wheels to sell (Broncos have the spare tire mounted on the rear door, hence the fifth wheel).

He wanted $200 for all five wheels, which included the tire pressure monitoring sensors.  That was more than fair, so I handed over the cash, loaded up the wheels and headed home.

Final Thoughts

I used to enjoy selling things on Marketplace, but it’s becoming more tiresome.  It might be the type of product I was selling, but that taught me to be a more respectful buyer.  When I messaged the seller, I told him what I was seeking and how soon I could pick them up.  No games.  The seller appreciated that approach, hence the sale!

Let me know how your Marketplace buying and selling experience is going.  Are my observations about the current shoppers unique, or is this the new normal?  Comments are always welcome below.
