Favorite Car Waxes for 2025

Favorite Car Waxes for 2025

It’s spring, so now is the time to shake off the winter schmutz and clean your car.  Of course, a true car enthusiast has been doing this all year long, but for those of you needing warm weather and sunny skies your time is here!

Last year, I provided a review of my four favorite car waxes.  Since that time, I have been seeking out new products to compare to my favorites.  A new car detailing store opened near my house, so I figured they could give me an education.  More on that later.

My Favorite Waxes

In my article Favorite Car Waxes For 2024, I identified four waxes and polishes that caught my attention.  My criteria was simple:  be easy to use, produce a great shine and last more than a month.

Only two of the products I reviewed in 2024 remain on my favorite list.  The other two from Wipe New did not last as long as the others.  That’s too bad as Wipe New is a Rust-Oleum brand, my favorite paint brand.

Listed below are my current three favorite car waxes and polishes.  They are listed in order of cost (low to high).

UPDATE:  Since publishing this favorites list in May 2025, I have changed my recommendation of the 3D Carnauba Wax.  Please see my update below.

Nu Finish

This product has been around for years.  I first used it in the late 1980s, and has been my go-to polish until a couple of years ago.  It is easy to apply and remove, which is one reason it is a favorite.  Waxes that require a lot of buffing to produce a great shine will discourage you from even trying.

If you have been around a while, you may remember the TV commercials where they applied Nu FInish to the hood of a junkyard car.  It instantly brought back the shine.  Nu Finish is actually a polish and not a wax.  The key difference is in the chemical makeup of the product.  For most of us, the difference is hard to tell.

Nu Finish doesn’t last as long as the others I reviewed, but its low cost and ease of application keep it on my list.  It can be purchased at most auto parts stores, WalMart, Meijer or Amazon.com for under $10.

Chemical Guys Butter Wet Wax

The Chemical Guys brand is pretty popular with detailers and hobbyists.  They carry a lineup of car care products ranging from interior cleaners, conditioners, exterior soaps, waxes, towels and more.  You can learn more on their website HERE.

The Butter Wet Wax is just as easy to apply and rub off as Nu Finish, and it seems like it produces a slighter better shine.  Or, maybe the fresh banana scent of the wax hypnotized me! Either way, it lasts longer than Nu Finish.

Chemical Guys Butter Wet Wax is available at most auto part stores and Amazon.com for under $20.

3D Carnauba Wax

My wife and I like to go to a local coney island restaurant near our house.  A car detailing store opened in the space next to the restaurant, so I stopped in one evening to see what they had.  Can you say kid in a candy store?

3D Car Care is a community of enthusiasts, professionals, and DIY detailers who share a common passion for cars.  Their mission is simple yet profound: to preserve your vehicle’s value and ignite a passion for your everyday companion.

That sounds like a great alignment with what I am trying to do with Vehicle Nanny, so this feels like a good companion.

The retail store near me is staffed with knowledgeable car enthusiasts, so when I asked for their recommendation on a car wax that fit my needs, they quickly recommended the 3D Carnauba Wax.  A 16 ounce bottle was $25.99–not cheap, but neither is your car’s paint.  It’s available online or at one of their retail stores.

At the time of publishing this article in May, I have used this wax exclusively on my two cars.  I have fallen out of love with it.  The wax does not last as long as the other two reviewed.  It’s a decent wax, but does not stand up to the multiple washings I give my cars.

Final Thoughts & Questions

You can’t go wrong with any of the products I reviewed.  It really depends on your budget.  The 3D was was my favorite, but over the past few months of use, I can no longer recommend it.  I gave my bottle of the Chemical Guys wax to a friend.  He uses it on his 1968 Firebird and loves it.  I need to buy myself another bottle soon!
