Ford Bronco Emblem Blackout

Blacking out the emblems on your Ford Bronco (or any vehicle) is a relatively cheap, easy and quick task.  In addtion, it is also reversible, which is an important theme in all of my personalizations.

For the Ford Bronco Big Bend shown here, there is only one bit or brightwork on the truck.  That brightwork is the bucking bronco on the tailgate.  In some other trims, this part is finished in black.  I’m not sure why the big Bend has a bright, chrome-like finish, but it looks out of place and needs to be changed.

The Emblem Blackout Process In Pictures

As I mentioned above, a detailed process is in the Camaro article.  The process is the same for any vehicle, so I am only showing a summary of the process in the following pictures.

From start to finish, this blackout treatment took about 2.5 hours.  Funny thing, it was not something I planned to do until this past weekend.  I was washing my truck and kept looking at the bright bronco on the tailgate.  By the time I finished drying the Bronco, I decided it was time to blackout the emblem.

The blackout was faster than most modifications.  Once the emblem was cleaned and masked, I applied five coats of Plastidip.   Within 20 minutes of applying the final coat, I peeled the excess material away from the body.  

Final Thoughts

I like these kinds of modifications, mainly because they are cheap and easy to perform.  More importantly, it is also reversible.  That makes it easy to return your vehicle to stock condition if you are trying to sell it, turn in after the lease, or if you are bored.
