Ford Bronco Sound Deadening

Ford Bronco Sound Deadening

Adding sound deadening material to your Ford Bronco is the best way to increase the perception of quality in your vehicle.  In the sections below, I will outline the steps I took to improve the sound quality of the four doors on this truck.  Even if you take your time, this job can be completed within three hours using basic tools.

For the record, the current Bronco is not a noisy vehicle.  This is especially true considering it is shaped like a brick and has multiple removable roof panels.  When you slam one of the doors, however, you will quickly realize how hollow they sound.  That makes the Bronco feel cheaper than it deserves.

Remove the Door Trim Panel

I was able to find a couple of YouTube videos showing how to remove the door panels and add sound deadening.  Those videos were helpful, but I find it more helpful to have a pictorial procedure that I can study before and during the service.  As such, this procedure is like a shop manual, but with better pictures!

Adding Sound Deadening Material

The Bronco is my fifth vehicle to get this sound deadening treatment.  With each vehicle, I used Siless 80 Mil Sound Deadening Mat found on Amazon. The Siless mat is a butyl automotive sound deadener that comes in 16” x 24” sheets.  I bought the box that contains 36 square feet of material, which is more than enough for all four doors and the rear cargo floor.

The images below walk you through the application.

The above steps show the process used on the front passenger door.  The steps are similar for all four doors.  Once you finish each door, install the door trim panels in the reverse order in which you removed them.

Final Thoughts & Questions

I have not yet applied the mat to the rear cargo area, but I am not sure it really needs it.  If I do that in the future, I will add the steps to this article.

Installing the sound deadening did a lot to quiet the closure of the doors. My wife is a chronic door slammer, so that alone was a good reason to perform this service. I do feel that this also reduced some road noise through the doors as well.  Time will tell if added sound deadening will be needed.
