Indoor Floor Mat Cleaning Station

Indoor Floor Mat Cleaning Station

Winter in Michigan means cold weather, sloppy salt covered roads, and potholes.  Keeping your car’s exterior clean is a challenge, but I have a great soft-cloth car wash nearby. That’s why having an indoor floor mat cleaning stations is vital.

All-weather floor mats are a must for the winter, and prevent serious carpet damage.  In the past, I brought the mats into my laundry room and washed them in the utility sink.  That ends up creating a huge mess and much frustration.  If necessity is the mother of invention, then I came up with a mother of an idea.

Floor Mat Cleaning Station

I have a workshop in the unfinished basement of my home.  Over the years, I have configured it to tackle a wide range of projects.  I recently removed a wall full of cabinets, leaving me a blank canvas for something new. Staring at that wall and looking up at the plumbing overhead, the big idea formed:

This is the perfect time to make a wash station for floor mats.

Floor mats clamped to wall

The overhead plumbing already had a spigot installed, so the water supply was handled.  Waterproofing the wall was done using the extra moisture barrier plastic from a flooring project.  Add in two spring clamps screwed to the wall studs and the floor mat washing station was finished.

Final Thoughts & Questions

I can’t believe it took me this long in life to make a place to wash floor mats in my basement.  Do I have too much time on my hands?  Maybe, but my creation may spark an idea for you.
